Why the Studio?
Once a rundown beach shack, became an artist’s studio, then rescued as a comfortable home and holiday escape.
The Studio is reminiscent of summer holidays that felt they would go on forever, long days on the beach and late nights sharing good times with families and friends or cozy winters curled up in front of the fire with a book.
A wonderful quiet spot to stop and relax or a retreat to return to after a day adverturing. Somers itself is a little off the beaten track but is well placed to explore the local eateries, wineries and other delights of the Mornington Peninsula and the secrets of Westernport.
For many years my daughter Jess divided her time between US ski fields and Australia. She long dreamed of a rundown beach shack where she could keep her Australian belongings, live during the Australian winter and share with guests in our summer while she was away.
With more than 35 years welcoming guests to our stone cottage, No.1 William St in Port Fairy we had experience in this style of accommodation. Jess hadn’t considered my studio close to home.
During 2013 and 14, I downsized and moved my studio home. We undertook extensive work to save the building from demolition and although Jess’ visits home are limited she has a place here …. and I still get enormous pleasure welcoming guests to a place we love.
